We are growing and searching for an Outside Sales Engineer to join our team. This individual will work with our Engineered Products Group as an Outside Sales Engineer calling on contractors, engineers, and owners in DC and Northern Virginia.

Job Summary

The Outside Sales position actively promotes company represented factories with the local consulting engineering community and shall aggressively chase equipment sales with all engineering consultants, contractors, and building owners. It is expected that the Outside Sales Engineer will develop a close relationship with their respective inside team. This team effort will result in maximizing profits by ordering equipment properly and delivering in a timely fashion to meet deadlines.

Essential Functions

Work with Consulting Engineers:

  1. Maintain, update, and educate on factory catalogs, software, and product developments.

  2. Regularly schedule educational seminars that introduce factory products or information.

  3. Travel with factory employees when visiting to promote. This includes setting-up meetings, seminars, etc. prior to visits.

  4. Generate “Budget & Pre-Submittals” for any equipment selections required.

  5. Increase market penetration by earning basis of design and being listed as an acceptable manufacturer.


Working with Contractors:

  1. Regularly visiting customer base to ensure relationship development.

  2. “Take Off” projects that are not handled by Estimating department.

  3. Quote any “Design/Build” projects.

  4. Follow-up on all quotes.

  5. Finalize “Buy Numbers” and negotiate project quotes. This will include obtaining special pricing approval from the factories and review of estimate.

  6. Generate submittals and any re-submittal required for approval.

  7. Attend project review/coordination meetings.

  8. Coordinate and resolve any project related issues (Delivery, Warranty, Service, Returns, Etc.)

  9. Provide owner training.


Work with Inside-Sales person to ensure that all equipment on a project is ordered properly:

  1. Communication of cost and sell pricing.

  2. Review of approved submittals to ensure that equipment and options are understood and ordered correctly.

  3. Provide direction of any internal commission splits.

  4. Assist and review project Close-Out is accurate.

Provide guidance to estimating department on equipment selections and market pricing.


Work closely with manufacturers to resolve application specific issues and promote products. Working as a liaison with manufacturers to increase market share and secure orders.


Attend and become involved in industry related organizations (ASHRAE, ASPE, CASHE, NFPA, etc.). Regular attendance and membership to a minimum of one organization is expected.


Remain knowledgeable on products and technologies which Chesapeake Systems represents.

This position requires a strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, excellent people skills and the ability to handle issues in a fast paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but not required. Consideration will be given to individuals with technical industry experience that understand the HVAC industry and want to grow into a sales role.

  • Experience selling mechanical, plumbing, and/or variable refrigerant equipment is preferred.

  • The ability to work independently without close supervision.

  • Motivated self-starter with strong work ethic.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.

  • Strong customer service and relationship building skills.

  • Exceptional project and time management skills.

  • Must have basic PC experience in Windows and working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).

  • Must provide own transportation.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean motor vehicle record.
